Guided self-diagnosis
If you think you might be Autistic or an ADHDer or both, and would like support to figure this out, my Guided Self-diagnosis Service is here for you.
Not everyone wants, needs or can wait for an expensive medical diagnosis. Self-diagnosis is accepted within the Autistic and ADHD communities and is increasingly becoming a valid model for diagnosis in the wider community. Many research studies with Autistic and ADHD participants now accept self-diagnosis as valid for participation in empirical studies.
In my Guided Self-diagnosis service, I will work with you through three sessions to explore your neurotype together.
In our first session, we’ll talk about your childhood, family relationships, schooling, young adulthood, and current experiences to explore how these might relate to the current diagnostic criterion in the DSM-V for Autism and ADHD.
In our second appointment, I’ll guide you through a number of highly rated assessment tools, including the AQ, CAT-Q, ESQ-R, ASRS-5 and DIVA-5, and we’ll make sense of the results together.
In our final session, I’ll support you while you decide if you are ready to self-identify and we’ll map out a process forward for you. I can link you to additional resources and tools to help you integrate the learning from our sessions together, or we can continue to work together therapeutically.
This service is not an official medical diagnosis and the results can’t be used to access the NDIS or official disability accommodations. Should you wish to obtain an official medical diagnosis upon completion of this service, I can provide a referral to a neuro-affirming clinician who offers a discounted assessment in recognition of your participation in my service.
Understanding your neurotype is life changing.
This is your identity and you have the right to explore, define, and claim it on your own terms.
